LIST OF PROGRAMS ORGANIZED FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR – 2024 -2025
  1. In Commemoration of BOOK LOVER'S DAY on 9 th AUGUST 2024, Central library inaugurated JBAS NDLI BOOK LOVER'S CLUB and around 360 members have joined the club actively. It's an online community through WhatsApp. We also conducted a small activity session by asking the Library users to write their favorite book and leave their sign and thumb impression in a Chart.
  2. In commemoration of NATIONAL LIBRARIAN'S DAY on 12 th August 2024, Central Library conducted Inter-Departmental Competitions "THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS" in the theme of 'Fairy tale' for the I Year UG Students 'Classic Fantasy' for the II &III Year Students. In the Book Review, Poster Making, Journal Making and Poem writing Competitions around 230 Participants actively participated from both Forenoon and Afternoon Sessions. Total Prize winners - 39.
  3. The JBAS NDLI Book Lover's Club from the Central Library conducted Book Reflection an online reading habit promotion activity from 23 rd September 2024 to 30 th September 2024 on the book I AM MALALA by Malala Yousafzai & from 25 th January 2025 to 05 th February 2025 on the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. UG Students were asked to send an Audio Podcast based on the books as the book reflection and to share about their thoughts and opinion about these books. Total Participants – 35.
  4. The Central Library of the College conducted a Certificate Course - Free Computer Literacy Programme on MS Office, Internet & Exposure to Web Resources from 1 st August 2024 to 23 rd September 2024 for the benefit of the students of both FN and AN Colleges after their college hours. Course Duration – 15 days. Total Participants – 73 (Both FN & AN).
  5. The Central Library organized a Lecture on the Topic "Read to Lead" on 3 rd January, 2025. The resource person was Dr. B. Srilakshmi, Librarian from Sir Theagaraya College, Chennai. A total of 74 participants attended the lecture session. The event also included the Display of National Librarian's day Competitions Entries, Certificate & Prize distribution of Participants and Prize winners, MS Office Course Completion Certificates and Badges distribution of Library Representatives and Volunteers.
  6. The Central Library conducted a 3-day training program from 2 nd January 2025 to 4 th January 2025 for UG students on the topic 'Time to Top - Awareness and Training Session for Competitive Exam Aspirants.' A total of 44 participants attended, from both FN and AN session.
  7. The Central Library organized a Book Fair in collaboration with the English department on 30 th January 2025 during "J Theatre Melange 2025". Four publishers set up their book stalls. Yours Choice - Book Seller and Library Suppliers, Sams Publishers, Merven Educational Solutions and CSB Books - Library Suppliers and Distributors. The book stalls were opened from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. Students eagerly purchased books from various genres.

LIBFEST 22 CELEBRATION FROM 9TH-30TH APRIL 2022

LiBFEST 22 was celebrated from 9thApril to 30thApril 2022. The Library club and NDLI club colloborately organized the Motivational Lecture Series on various topics arranged on every Saturday for the benefit of the students. RELEASE OF LIBRARY HAND BOOK FIRST EDITION- 2021 AND LOGO LAUNCHED

The first edition of the Library Hand book published in 2021 highlights the exhaustive information about the Library and celebrated the 50 years of its existence and service by launching the LOGO of the Library with vibrant words- IMAGINE, DISCOVER and CONNECT through virtual meet on 25/03/2022

Programmes organized for the Academic Year 2021-2022

1.E-books on subjects, fiction, study materials for competitive exams, online competitions conducted by other colleges etc. are posted to students whatsapp group.

2.Ameliorate Word Power- A new service has been started to make the students open the dictionary during pandemic from 6th July onwards.

3.An official JBAS LIBRARY INSTAGRAM page was opened on 26th July, 2021 @CHRONICLES_FROM_JBAS-a page of the students, by the students for the students!

National Library Day organized by the Library Club and NDLI Club

The National Library Day was celebrated on 12th August 2021 to commemorate the birth of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the father of Indian Library Science. The Library club in collaboration with NDLI club organized Inter departmental competitions for the Students from Forenoon and Afternoon sessions.
Nearly 200 students were participated in these online events. An invite was prepared for registration through whatsapp group and the link was posted to register their names. A rule book was prepared and sent to the registered participants and received their consent by 11th August, 2021.
A valedictory function was conducted on 4th September, 2021 in the Library Convention Hall.

1.JBAS Books Archive Spot BEQUEATHED BOOKS a New Section inauguration was held in the open space beside the Library on 4th September, 2021. Let's all donate a book and make a friend. Rules and Regulations-General instructions, rules for borrowing, donating, request column etc are framed.

NEW SERVICES LAUNCHED IN THE CENTRAL LIBRARY

The Central Library organized three new services for the benefit of the staff and students.

A.JOURNEY TO LEARN LANGUAGES-SPOKEN LANGUAGE

A First new service: Journey To Learn Languages-Spoken Language for the students has been launched on 4/10/2021. Six words in a week  Six Languages - the daily expressions displayed in the white board for both Forenoon and Afternoon College students.

B.WIFI GARDEN

The Second new service  WIFI GARDEN has been launched on 05/10/2021.The library has been facilitated with WIFI and this facility has been extended to the staff and students during internet issues to attend the online classes. Electrical Point provision is also made available. An open air reading also known as GREEN LIBRARY presently WI-FI GARDEN. Wi-Fi user id and password are given to the users on request

C.TALKING COMPUTER-(AUDIO BOOKS)

The Third new service Talking Computer (Audio books) has been launched on 08/10/2021 to the staff and students. One PC is exclusively made available in the internet section. Head phones would be provided to listen to the audio books. Link will also be shared to the whatsapp group of the staff and students on request.

The whole idea is to make the Library an inviting place for the students to make use of all the facilities available in the Library and also to become habitual users of the Library.

Travel down the Memory Lane Reminiscing Childhood

The Library week celebration was conducted from 14th - 21th November, 2021 as REMINISCENCE 21 to commemorate the birth of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India who was a lover of roses and books. The Library club and NDLI club colloborately organized inter departmental competitions for both Forenoon and Afternoon College students. The following were the four online events and the respective resource persons adjudged the events:

Nearly 150 students were participated in these online events. An invite was prepared for registration through whatsapp group and the link was posted to register their names. A rule book was prepared and sent to the registered participants and received their consent by 10th of November 2021.

A valedictory function was conducted on 6th December 2021 in the Library Convention Hall. The programme started by invoking the blessings of the Almighty by Ms. Ume Kulsum, Library Secretary, Department of Computer Science. Thahira Naseeruddin, Head and Librarian welcomed the gathering. She thanked the Management, Principal Vice-Principal of both FN & AN College and the A.O (C) for their encouragement. She motivated the students to take part in all the competitions to improve their skills.

The report on the REMINISCENCE 21 was proposed by Ms.Shabnam, Library Secretary, Department of Psychology. Prizes were distributed to the judges for the respective event and winners by the Principal Dr. Shanaz Ahamed, Dr. Amthul Azeez, Vice-Principal, Forenoon College, Dr. Firdouse Jahan, Vice-Principal, Afternoon College and Mrs.Matheena Fasi, Administrative Officer. The Organizing Secretaries were honoured with a certificate for their whole hearted support rendered towards this journey. Vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Ume Kulsum, Library Secretary, Department of Computer Science.

PROGRAMMES ORGANIZED DURING 2020-2021-COVID-19: ONLINE EVENTS

E-Quiz on the topic  Information Sources and Research Methodology was conducted for mixed group of participant's viz. like students, research scholars, academicians from Tamil Nadu and other states and Universities including our students. Nearly 1600 E-certificates were generated.
Webinar on the topic Applying for Government and Non-Government Research Projects  was organized in collaboration with MRCC for the staff of the College from 11am to 1pm on 9th June 2020. Dr. Amilan, Professor and Head, Department of Commerce, Pondicherry Central University, Karaikal Campus was the Resource Person.

Programme organized for the Academic Year 2018-2019.

Hands on Training on MS-OFFICE & INTERNET and EXPOSURE TO WEB RESOURCES have been conducted for the students of both Fore Noon Session (1.00 to 02.00 p.m.) and After Noon Session (12.00 noon to 01.00 p.m).

An Orientation Programme was organized on  National Digital Library Resources  for both Fore Noon College students from (11.30 am to 01.00 p.m) and After Noon College students (4pm to 5.30p.m) on 12/02/2020. Dr.A.Hariharan, Former President, Society for the Advancement of Library and Information Science(SALIS) was the Resource Person.

Library week celebrations  LIBFEST   is being celebrated from 9thmarch to 12th March 2020. Quiz programme for the students for both the sessions, Quiz programme, competition for the Non-Teaching staff and Scribbling Chart competition for the Teaching staff were conducted.

PROJECT UNDER TAKEN DURING 2019-2020

The books for House of Collection  Special Book Bank brought from M/S.Nirlon Group,Mumbai by our Chairman, S.I.E.Trust.

Nearly 483 books in the newly established book bank consists of Rare, Reference, Art, Architecture, Paintings, Arabic, Persian, French, German, Italian, Latin, Hebrew, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese have been entered in this software.

Hands on Training on MS-OFFICE & INTERNET and EXPOSURE TO WEB RESOURCES have been conducted for the students of both Fore Noon Session (1.00 to 02.00 p.m.) and After Noon Session (12.00 noon to 01.00 p.m).

PROJECT UNDER TAKEN DURING 2017-2018

A special book bank also known as House of Collection- a special section was established in the Library with rare collections not available in any Library of Chennai City. A closed access system has been followed for these books.

Nearly,11,905 books are brought from New Delhi by our Chairman Mr. Moosa Raza, IAS (Retd) and Chairman, S.I.E.Trust, a scholar and a oratious reader and authored many books.

This project has been started by appointing four data entry operators on wages basis. It took four months to complete the work.

A presentation on RFID Technology towards modernization was organized on 27th October 2016 in the Library Reading Room.
One day  National Seminar on the  Innovative and Best Practices in Academic Libraries in the Digital Era  on 26th August 2017 with professional collaboration with Society for the Advancement of Library and Information Science (SALIS) in the Golden Jubilee Seminar Hall.

One day National Seminar on the topic topic  Research Publication and Evaluation: Writing Research Papers, Citation Analysis and Anti  Plagiarism   conducted on 7th November 2015 in collaboration with Society for the Advancement of Library and Information Science (SALIS) in the College Auditorium.
